Please take blinders off, Ms. Sotomayor
I want to say that I think it is admirable to see all that Sonia Sotomayor had to overcome in order to be considered as a Supreme Court Justice. Her rise to the top parallels the determined actions that many Americans have undertaken in this great nation. I was however, very disappointed in her statement in which she said, her experience as a female Latina made her more of an asset for the position "than a white male."
This blatant example of hypocritical racism and gender bias is disturbing, to say the least. This concept being accepted in our society is worse. My experience in life, along with thousands of other white males was no less stringent than yours, Ms. Sotomayor. Regardless of ethnicity or race, America needs the best candidates for political office and that is change I think we can all believe in and work for.
Your statements and action in regard to the firefighters in New Jersey tells me you need to take off the blinders of racism yourself. There are many white males out here who contribute to the prosperity of this nation in spirit and work on a daily basis, and many of us have the scars on our knees and shins from having to jump over hurdles as well. Remember the statue of (Libertad) Liberty has a blindfold on; it is supposed to represent something important in America.
