Suspects ordered held in Chicago cop's death

A judge has ordered two men charged with murdering a Chicago police officer held without bail.

Prosecutors said at a bond hearing Wednesday for 20-year-old Shawn Gaston and 21-year-old Kevin Walker that both men were on probation for unrelated offenses when Alejandro "Alex" Valadez was killed.

Prosecutors say both suspects are reputed gang members who wanted revenge when they allegedly shot the 27-year-old Valadez as he investigated reports of gunfire. They say gunshot residue and ballistics evidence link them to Monday's shooting on the city's South Side.

Gaston and Walker are each charged with first-degree murder, first-degree murder of a peace officer and attempted first-degree murder.

The men's relatives declined to speak to reporters as they left court.
