Wine-tasting event to benefit Huntley boosters

Huntley High School's Fine Arts Boosters will hold its second annual wine-tasting fundraiser Feb. 23 at the Village Vintner Winery, 2273 Randall Road (across from Menard's) in Carpentersville.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and a $15 ticket gets you a sampling of eight local wines, plus a selection of hors d'oeuvres. Wine will be sold for $6 a glass or by the bottle at a variety of prices.

Throughout the evening, prizes donated by local merchants will also be raffled off to raise money for District 158 fine arts programs.

Space is limited, so reservations are recommended. For details, call Sue or Gerhard Bohme at (847) 669-1809 or e-mail bohme6@sbc global.net.

Bubbly fun: Doug Cataldo tells me that, this month, the Huntley Area Public Library is celebrating Bubblewrap® Appreciation Day with a "Bubblewrap® Building and Design" contest for children in grades three through 12.

Participants will compete by creating a work of art or a working invention using sheets or pieces of that popular, pop-happy wrap.

Contest guidelines are available in the library's children's room and entries may be turned in now through Feb. 22.

Bubblewrap® entries will be on display through Feb. 29, when the winners will be announced. For details, call (847) 669-5386.

Luau snowed out: They're a tough bunch, those Friends of the Huntley Public Library, and it would have to be a cold day in Honolulu (or Huntley) before they canceled one of their programs.

But that is what happened last Friday when the group called off their "Library Lovers' Luau" due to an early evening snowstorm and bitterly cold temperatures.

The event will be rescheduled soon, organizers say, and I'll let know when in a future column.

Chamber news:ŒFearing another snowstorm, the Huntley Chamber of Commerce rescheduled this week's general membership meeting for 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the chamber office in Deicke Park. What better way to start your Valentine's Day?

• Booths are selling fast for the 2008 Huntley Home and Business Expo March 1-2 at the Huntley High School gymnasium. The show will be free to the public and booths may be rented by chamber businesses only. Raffle prizes are still being sought.

For details, call (847) 669-0166 or visit www.huntleychamber.org.
