Peter Ueberroth says Chicago leads in Games quest

Peter Ueberroth has proclaimed Chicago the leader in the quest of the 2016 Olympic games.

The former head of the U.S. Olympic Committee has in the past questioned Chicago's chances of hosting the event. However, on Monday, in an interview with WBBM-AM in Chicago, Ueberroth said the city's ethnic diversity and its large number of Fortune 500 corporations gives it an edge over other cities bidding for the games.

Ueberroth also called Chicago a sports fan's town, adding the city can introduce the Midwest to the world through the Olympic movement.

The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to pick a host city on Oct. 2.

Chicago is competing against Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro.
