Disappointed with quality of repairs
Yes, it is good news that streets are being resurfaced in Arlington Heights. ("Arlington Heights giving local streets facelifts..." June 10) I'm sure residents on those streets have been wondering when it would happen. It seems we have to endure bumpy and pot-holed roads and complain to the Village before something is finally done.
Beware what you ask for, however.
Last year, residents on North Ridge between Olive and Thomas made several calls and sent letters to the Village complaining about the condition of the street. Eventually a contractor came through in late summer and tore up the pavement on one day and filled and paved the next. How satisfying to know that our calls and letters to the Village brought results.
However, it wasn't long after completion of the resurfacing that we could feel how poorly the work was done. Drive along this section of North Ridge and see and feel how bumpy it is. Look at the rebuilt surface and see where the snow plows from this past winter shaved off the high spots. Watch the kids on their bikes or on their skate boards avoid the side of the street that was "repaired."
So, residents on the blocks scheduled for rehabilitation, reconstruction or resurfacing, beware the final result. Don't rely on the contractor to do a good job. You may want to ask the Village to what standards will the contractor be held to. Yes, our street was repaired but to the standard to a third-world country.
