Ex-Ill. couple gets prison for fraud
EAST ST. LOUIS -- A southwestern Illinois woman and her ex-husband have been sentenced to prison and ordered to repay more than $78,000 in a federal fraud case.
A judge in East St. Louis ordered 31-year-old Stacie Gary of Glen Carbon to serve one year and nine months for fraud involving bankruptcy and unemployment benefits.
Her 33-year-old ex-husband, Keith Gary, was sentenced to a year in prison for bankruptcy fraud.
Stacie Gary also must repay $44,642 and Keith Gary must pay $33,892 in restitution.
Both pleaded guilty earlier this year. Prosecutors say the Garys hid a worker's compensation claim from the federal bankruptcy court. Stacie Gary also filed for unemployment with the state even though she had a job.
