Elgin Symphony Orchestra wraps up 2008-09 season

ESO ends with Grieg

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra plays its last concert of the 2008-2009 season this weekend when Terrence Wilson joins the ESO for Grieg's "Piano Concerto in A Minor." The top ticket price was dropped to $25 this week.

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra performs at 1:30 and 8 p.m. today, June 12; 8 p.m. Saturday, June 13; and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Tickets range from $15 to $25 at the box office at (847) 888-4000 or elginsymphony.org.

Tenor madness

Plenty of rock bands have fought the acoustics at the Allstate Arena to a draw over the years. Can operatic tenor Andrea Bocelli fill the stadium with his voice alone? He's touring behind his new album, "Incanto," which finds him trying to break through to a mainstream audience, and his concert will likely include popular favorites like "Funiculi Funicula."

Andrea Bocelli performs at 8 p.m. Friday at the Allstate Arena, 6920 N. Mannheim Road, Rosemont. Tickets from $75 to $325 at the box office or Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or ticketmaster.com.

P.J. shares bill

Polly Jean Harvey and her longtime collaborator John Parish are touring together behind their excellent new album, "A Woman a Man Walked By." With Parish calling the musical shots, expect some atmospheric, ensemble-minded acoustic folk, but also more straightforward rocking than P.J. usually goes in for.

P.J. Harvey and John Parish play at 7:30 p.m. today at the Riviera Theater, 4746 N. Racine Ave., Chicago. Call (773) 275-6800 for details. $34 through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or ticketmaster.com.
