Experience all sorts of art in Lake Bluff this weekend

Artists of all levels and backgrounds will be in Lake Bluff this weekend for the annual Lake Bluff Arts Festival. Here's what you need to know.

Q. What makes this such a fabulous event?

A. This art show offers something for everyone. There will be art on display by members of the Artists on the Bluff group and invited guests, and there will also be art activities for all ages. Guests are also treated to live music. This year, the Navy Band will perform in the gazebo on Sunday.

Q. How long has this event been in existence? How has it changed, and what is new this year?

A. This is the show's ninth year.

Q. What's the highlight of the event?

A. Besides the beautiful art, one of the highlights of this show, and all others put on by Artists on the Bluff, is the free sketch or gesture drawing activity, which encourages guests to step up to an easel and draw a live model, just for fun.

Q. How much does it cost to get in? If the admission costs benefit a charity, please tell us about that group.

A. The show is free.

Q. Where can I get more information?

A. Log on to artistsonthebluff.org.

Q. Is there anything else we should know?

A. Artists have always been attracted to the Village of Lake Bluff, beginning in 1875 when it was a summer resort. Today the tradition continues with Artists on the Bluff, a charitable organization dedicated to promoting the arts and encouraging artists. Members of Artists on the Bluff also teach art at the Lake Bluff Park District. The group has staged a fundraising show for the Lake Bluff Library, and artists in the group have also created murals and backdrops for local school drama and musical productions. To further encourage interests in the arts, a member painted banners which are hung throughout the summer around the green to promote the Farmers Market. The murals in Lake Bluff's historic landmark Train Station were also created by two of our members, both nationally recognized professional muralists.
