Herald, writers 'reality-challenged'

That I would encounter yet another letter in this newspaper, as I did most recently on May 30, calling Democrats, including the President of the United States, "communist" illustrates two points quite clearly:

1. The late, reality-challenged and ultimately disgraced Sen. Joseph McCarthy, who rose to power by being a notoriously monomaniacal witch hunter and slanderer of supposed "communists," has been resurrected as the de facto leader of the clueless and self-marginalizing, post-Bush Republican party.

2. The Daily Herald apparently exercises no editorial discretion whatsoever when it comes to printing ignorant and inflammatory right-wing, smear-merchant propaganda from the same small cadre of hysterical partisan scribblers week after week.
