One dead in early morning crash near Burlington

A 25-year-old DeKalb man was killed early Saturday morning when he apparently lost control of his vehicle on Plank Road and struck several trees near Burlington, authorities said.

The Kane County sheriff's office said it appeared Alfonso Santiago may have been traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

Authorities said Santiago was driving a green, 1997 Mercury Mountaineer east on Plank Road east of West County Line Road when he lost control.

A passer-by notified authorities at 2:51 a.m. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
