Champaign shootings lead to standoff, evacuations
CHAMPAIGN -- Two Champaign women have been hospitalized after being shot in an incident that led to a brief police standoff and the evacuation of a number of homes.
Champaign Police Chief R.T. Finney says two men have been arrested in connection with shootings Tuesday on the city's north side. He didn't provide details.
Police found the women after a report of a fight. They learned two men were hiding inside a home.
Officers evacuated nearby homes. The men gave up after about 30 minutes of negotiations.
The women's identities and conditions aren't immediately available.
