Charter bus accident on I-80 slows traffic to a crawl

Police and rescue crews have reopened most eastbound lanes on I-80 east of Ridge Road in Minooka following a charter bus accident that was carrying a not-for-profit drum and bugle corps.

Traffic is now moving freely - but slowly - through the area, officials said.

Officials still have not said what caused the accident.

However, the Internet website for the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corp from Ohio posted a notice that shortly before 7 a.m., the volunteer bus was involved in an accident with a tractor trailer coming out of a service plaza.

The website states the bus driver sustained minor injuries, but as a precautionary measure three volunteers were also taken to an area hospital.

All members, staff and remaining volunteers are fine, the website adds.

Its unclear at this time why the bus was in Illinois, or where the bus was heading.
