Sun City clubs

Sun City Railroad Club: More than 1,000 people took advantage of the beautiful weather on May 24, and visited the Sun City Railroad Cub's spring open house. In addition to opening the various train layouts to the community, the event celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. The festivities included the dedication of a river birch tree in the memory of the president by the Sun Flowers Garden Club and a presentation of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address by Gary Cooney, a Sun City resident. The sounds of the Prairie Voices singing group entertained the gathering with renditions of "Chattanooga Cho Cho, "The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe," and other train related songs. And the train club memorialized the death of President Lincoln by running a replica of the funeral train that brought his body back to Illinois after his assassination in 1865. Also pitching in were the Woodchucks and Pencil and Palette clubs members who provided decorations for the event. All in all, the weather and the spirit of the day, could not have been better as the Sun City community joined to honor one of our greatest presidents.
