St. Louis' late run overtakes SIU
Kevin Lisch scored 8 of his 20 points in the closing minutes, and Saint Louis closed the game with a 13-0 run to beat Southern Illinois 56-51 Saturday night in St. Louis.
Tommie Liddell III scored 16 points for Saint Louis (7-5), which shot 11-for-16 from the floor in the second half to end a two-game losing streak.
Southern Illinois (4-4) seemed to have a comfortable lead at 51-43 after Matt Shaw hit a 3-pointer, but Lisch answered with his own 3-pointer, then went 5-for-6 on free throws down the stretch to help the Billikens win for the fifth time in six home games.
Shaw led Southern Illinois with 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting, and Randal Falker added 12 points.
The game feature numerous big runs, including a 16-3 second-half spurt by Southern Illinois that gave the Salukis their largest lead at 48-39.
Saint Louis used an 8-0 run, capped by Danny Brown's acrobatic shot, to end the first half with a 24-23 lead.
Valparaiso 90, Chicago St. 61: Samuel Haanpaa scored 32 points, including 10 3-pointers, and host Valparaiso (10-1) beat Chicago State (4-9). Haanpaa was 10-for-12 from beyond the arc and 11-for-13 from the field.
Urule Igbavboa and Shawn Huff added 11 each for Valparaiso, which shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field.
David Holston scored 15 points and Mike Wilson 10 for Chicago State.
Wilson hit a free throw to tie the game at 2-2 less than a minute in, but Haanpaa answered with a 3-pointer to give Valpo a lead it never relinquished. The Crusaders led 55-33 at the break and by as many as 29 late in the second half.
The Crusaders sealed the win with a 13-1 run.
