Electronic violence is child abuse
I would like to extend a very sincere thank you to St. Charles Unit District 303 schools and the Kane County 16th Judicial Court Services Gang Task Force for sponsoring a superb workshop.
The subject was "The Culture of Violence in Society." This six-hour seminar contained information relative to "media violence," described by the speaker a TV, movies, video games and cell phones. The American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics provided data to support the strong negative impact on our kids in society.
The speaker has appeared on the Today Show three times, Katie Couric twice, Larry King and Oprah.
His message that the examples of "media violence" cause an increase in violence, bullying, suicide and depression was validated by the AMA. Even violent-themed music creates negative behavior in kids.
School systems and states around the U.S. are starting to create laws against these "media violence" tools.
As a child advocate with CASA Kane County, I have a strong understanding of child abuse and activities that contribute to child abuse.
Parents, please explore the four major "media violence" tools and gain control over your kids. The world will be a better place due to your efforts. Just the reduction of TV time alone reduces violence, decreases obesity and bullying, while attendance at schools improves. Math and verbal skills also improve by 15 percent and 18 percent, respectively.
Thank you, District 303 and Court Services Gang Force for a very strong message.
