Pick Schmitz, Lauzen & McConnaughay
I have been involved in local politics for just about 40 years on the township level.
I retired three years ago after 31 years on the Plato Township Board, 26 of those as supervisor.
During those years I met many very good elected officials.
Three of them are state Sen. Chris Lauzen, county board chairman Karen McConnaughay and state Rep. Tim Schmitz.
Lauzen is an outstanding person in all respects and he has the qualifications to be our representative. In my opinion, his opponent is not qualified.
All three were instrumental in getting us grants for our new 46-acre park in Plato Township.
We raised $1.3 million in grants and in-kind donations. So our elected officials do look after the people that elect them.
Karen McConnaughay has done a great job as an administrator of one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. She has a good working relationship with the whole board.
Her opponent wants her job so he can cut taxes. Maybe he didn't know that only 5 cents of every tax dollar goes to the county. If his primary goal is to cut property taxes he should run for a school board, because school districts get the lion's share of the tax dollar.
Tim Schmitz has been an excellent state representative. He is recognized by his colleagues and the people he represents as an outstanding leader. He has proven experience and integrity.
His opponent has put up hundreds of signs in the county but that does not qualify him to be our representative.
