Body discovered in the Des Plaines River

Authorities are investigating the body of a man found Friday evening in the Des Plaines River.

A canoeist spotted a body in the water about 6:15 p.m. at Central Road between River and East River roads behind Oakton Community College, according to Steve Mayberry, spokesman for the Cook County Forest Preserve Police.

The unidentified body was that of a 39-year-old white male wearing brown jeans and a black jacket, he added. Further detail was not immediately available.

"At this point, the body has been removed to the medical examiners office for determination," he said.

That likely will occur Saturday morning, according to Mayberry.

Des Plaines police, who responded to the call, suspect it may have been a Des Plaines resident reported missing June 6 and described as a suicidal subject. The man's car already had been found at a nearby forest preserve.
