Cops find teller's car stolen in Hoffman Estates bank heist

Police have found the bank teller's car that a robbery suspect used to escape after a heist in Hoffman Estates Saturday.

The robber remains at large, and police have released security camera images of him taken during the robbery.

The suspect sped away in the stolen vehicle shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday from the Citibank at 2550 N. Sutton Road.

Police found the abandoned car just before 9 a.m. Tuesday in a vacant field on the 5100 block of Trillium Boulevard, north of the Sears Centre arena, Sgt. Gregory Poulos said. A local businessman called police about the abandoned car, which was parked in and partially concealed by the field's tall grass.

The suspect was armed with a 31/2-foot wooden stick, the type that could be purchased at a lumber yard, and swung it at a teller during the robbery, Poulos said.

The robber took an unknown sum of money and the teller's keys, which he used to drive off in the teller's 2003 black Nissan Altima.

The FBI is assisting in the ongoing investigation. The suspect is described is a 6-feet-1-inch-tall white male in his 50s, with a heavy build and gray hair. He was wearing a blue and white plaid shirt, dark jeans and a green and tan camouflage hat and had mud on his face.

Those with information are asked to call police at (847) 882-1818.
