Edwardsville cleaning up after rains
EDWARDSVILLE -- The cleanup continues in Edwardsville after the southwestern Illinois city was pummeled for days by rain, damaging dozens of homes.
The Madison County community got as many as 9 inches of rain, causing some home foundations to buckle and others to cave in. Officials say 45 homes suffered some damage.
Edwardsville's fire chief says the intense rain Monday overworked the city's storm sewer system. The runoff was sent across low-lying areas and into many homes, leaving a mess to clean up.
Damage estimates are not yet available.
