Woman gets 14 years for DUI in fatal crash
URBANA -- A judge has handed down the maximum sentence of 14 years in prison to a Champaign woman who pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence in a fatal accident last winter.
Champaign County Judge Tom Difanis issued the sentence Wednesday to 54-year-old Elizabeth Drewes, calling her "a belligerent, mean-spirited and manipulative drunk."
Illinois State Police say Drewes drove her Cadillac Escalade the wrong way on Interstate 74 last Dec. 19 and struck two other vehicles head-on.
The crash killed 24-year-old Brittany Babb of Ogden and seriously injured Babb's fiance, Zach Acton. Also injured were two Alexander residents, Randall and Tona Smith.
