Loyola's Groothuis leaves basketball coordinator role

Steve Groothuis, the coordinator of men's basketball operations at Loyola University, has resigned from his post to pursue other opportunities, head coach Jim Whitesell announced Tuesday.

Groothuis will serve as an assistant under legendary high school coach Bob Hurley at St. Anthony High School in New Jersey.

"We are sorry to see Steve leave Loyola as he worked very hard for our basketball program and student-athletes for the past two years," Whitesell said. "His desire to get back home and the opportunity to work for Coach Hurley were major factors in his decision. We wish him continued success."

Before a stint at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, which preceded his time at Loyola, Groothuis worked for two years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Delaware. He also spent a season at the director of basketball operations at Youngstown State University.
