Pfleger disgraces Catholic Church
I attended eight years of Catholic grammar school and four years of Catholic high school, all in the Chicago area.
I am 71 years old and have been a practicing Catholic all my life.
I have never been so ashamed of my religion until the recent unspeakable outburst by Father Michael Phleger with reference to Sen. Hillary Clinton.
At this time, the Catholic Church is already on damage control and has enough problems without a person of his character, a man of the cloth and representative of the Catholic Church, acting disgracefully.
It is not the first time Father Phleger's actions have been questioned. Father Phleger is indeed a disgrace to the Catholic Church.
If, Father Phleger's desire is to be an activist, then he should leave the church and follow his calling.
He should not hide behind the cloth and pretend to be for all the people.
Had I been the target of his character assassination, I would not accept his apology. The damage has already been done. He knew exactly what he was doing.
I do not understand how Cardinal George, in good conscience, can allow this person to remain a Catholic priest.
Is this where the Catholic Church is going or what the church has become?
I understand Father Phleger may be an exception. However, he needs to be made aware that being a priest does not mean the pulpit is his personal grandstand or soapbox.
