Bad time to spend on playgrounds

Can anyone but government be so insensitive and oblivious to the current economic doldrums to commit to spending more than $1 million for athletic fields? Athletic fields!

District 300's recent decision to demolish a building and use the site to create a couple of playing fields is an absolutely total insult to the tens of thousands of taxpayers, who if they're lucky enough to even still have a job, have had their own salaries either totally frozen or substantially reduced.

Besides significant layoffs, my company has postponed its own capital expenditures that would have created jobs because of the worst economic situation since the Great Depression, but District 300 has taxpayer money to create playgrounds.

And just you wait until the next round of District 300 teacher contract negotiations during the coming months. Want to bet that spineless administrators will cave in to the sure-to-be-demanded raises? And you'll be reading that these raises are demanded. If you're lucky to still have your job, care to guess your boss' reaction if tomorrow you demanded a raise?

Government is so out of touch with reality!

Write, call or e-mail now to District 300 directors and demand fiscal restraint and freezes on all government salaries and benefits. After all, that's what you're being forced to accept, and you're the ones who pay government's bills!
