Viking ship talk
Lorraine Straw, president of the Friends of the Viking Ship, will speak at the Brown Bag Lunch at noon today at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch. Cookies and coffee are provided. Cost is $3 for center members and $5 for nonmembers.
Cancer care talk
LivingWell Cancer Resource Center, a provider of nonmedical support at no cost for people living with cancer, will host a presentation on "Alternative and Complementary Therapies for Cancer Patients" at 7:30 p.m. tonight at 1803 W. State St., Geneva. Register at (630) 262-1111.
United Way seeks help
The Batavia United Way is looking for new board members and will have a coffee for prospects from 5 to 6 p.m. today. The Batavia United Way distributes more than $80,000 annually to 15 local nonprofit agencies in the Batavia area. The board meets once a month, and members also serve on subcommittees.
Grief retreat
Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, a nonprofit organization offering support for those with life-threatening illnesses and the bereaved, is offering the free "Grief Takes a Hike" retreat June 5 to 7 at Covenant Harbor in Lake Geneva, Wis. High school auto show
As part of its annual auto show, St. Charles East's Auto Club will sell the 1972 Porsche refurbished by the auto classes. Spectators will be able to enjoy the fun for free and can take part in the people's choice judging for each car class. There will be food, games, and prizes provided by area businesses. To register your vehicle, it's $10 for the public and $3 for students. The show will be run from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday on Fighting Saints Lane off Dunham Road.
