Elgin Children's Chorus performs Sunday at Elgin Community College

Vocal harmonies will fill every corner of the Blizzard Theater and surround you with the wondrous voices of the Elgin Children's Chorus at their "Music Always 'Round Me" performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin.

Highlights of the program include a Concert Choir performance of "A Little Jazz Mass" by Bob Chilcott; an audience singalong, "Ise Oluwa," a Yoruba (West African) hymn; the Treble and Intermezzo Choirs will combine to sing "And This Shall Be for Music;" and the program finale, "Didn't It Rain," which will be performed by all of the choirs.

Sean Francois, electric bass player, and Geoff Dyon, drummer, will accompany "A Little Jazz Mass." Sean is a senior at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville and Geoff is a student at Elgin Community College. Both are members of the Elgin Community College Jazz Ensemble directed by Ray Koehler.

Under the direction of Jay Kellner, Concert Choir will also be performing, "She Shall Have Music" from "The Nursery Rhyme" Cantata by Nick Page; "Like As A Father" by Luigi Cherubini; and "Adieu, Sweet Amarillis," a traditional English round, arranged by local composer and arranger J. Ryan Rimington.

Kellner will conduct the Chamber Choir as they perform selections from "Mass of the Children" by John Rutter; and "What'll I Do?'" by Irving Berlin.

Elizabeth Ellis will direct the Intermezzo Choir as they perform "Ching A Ring Chaw (and Great Gittin' Up Mornin')" by Linda Spevacek-Avery; "Pure Imagination" from " Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley; "She Sings -" by Amy F. Bernon; and "Sing, Sing, Sing," a swing tune, composed by Louis Prima.

Under the direction of Lisa Bettcher Treble Choir will perform "I Won't Grow Up" from "Peter Pan" composed by Mark Charlap and Carolyn Leigh; "Hope Is A Hidden Star" by Mark Patterson; and "Windy Nights" with lyrics by Robert Louis Stevenson and music by Mark Patterson.

Ticket office hours are 90 minutes before each performance.
