Crash involving officer injures 6
BELLEVILLE -- Illinois State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash involving a Belleville police car that apparently slid into the path of an oncoming van.
Six people, including police officer James Fietsam, were hurt in the Tuesday night crash. Investigators say none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Marc Bell says it appears Fietsam lost control of his car on wet roads and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a van occupied by three people. That van then was hit from behind by a car.
It isn't immediately clear whether Fietsam was responding to a call or whether his cruiser's lights and sirens were on.
The accident happened during a heavy rain.
