Incriminating photo sneaked into New Trier yearbook

New Trier High School officials said Thursday they'll take "appropriate disciplinary action" against those responsible for sneaking a photo of a student holding a beer can into the school's yearbook.

An annual high school rite of passage, yearbook distribution, happened Wednesday morning at the Winnetka school.

That's when administrators opened the book and found the incriminating photo of two girls posing for the camera and hugging, with one holding a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer behind the other's back.

The snapshot was included without the consent or knowledge of faculty, according to a statement by New Trier Township Superintendent Linda Yonke.

Officials are trying to figure out who is responsible.

"Clearly, the content of the picture and its inclusion in the yearbook are contrary to our principles and values as a school community," the statement read.

It's unclear if the girls in the photo themselves will face disciplinary action. Prank or not, officials worry about the school's image. Graduation is set for Sunday at Northwestern University's Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston.

"We are proud of the quality of Trevia each year, and appreciative of the excellent work of the staff and students who produce it; we are sorry if this picture creates a negative view of what is normally a high-quality New Trier publication," Yonke's statement concluded.
