Ill. ex-teacher pleads guilty to sex with student
QUINCY -- A former western Illinois high school coach and teacher has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a student.
Geoff Dalton pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual assault involving a then-15-year-old girl.
The 33-year-old faces up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced June 24. He no longer teaches.
Adams County State's Attorney Jon Barnard says Dalton had inappropriate sexual contact with the girl after a basketball road trip for Unity High School in Mendon.
Dave Mason is a school resource officer with the Adams County Sheriff's office. He testified during a February preliminary hearing that the girl told him she and Dalton had contact four times, mostly during summer 2007.
Mason testified that the contact started when the girl was failing a class Dalton taught.
