Fantastic Waco Bros. to peform at FitzGerald's
The Waco Brothers aren't just one of the best live bands in Chicago; they're one of the best on the planet. They come to the suburbs to play FitzGerald's in Berwyn this weekend, and it's especially must-see as drummer Steve Goulding, who cut his teeth with Graham Parker's Rumour, is slated to be behind the kit. The YellowHammers open.
Facts: The Waco Brothers play at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at FitzGerald's Night Club, 6615 W. Roosevelt Road, Berwyn. Tickets are $15; call the club at (708) 788-2118 or TicketWeb at (866) 468-3401 or visit ticketweb.com.
There will be blood
The satirical metal band Gwar is back on tour, celebrating its 25th anniversary. That's right, a quarter century. Given the band's persistent penchant for spewing its audiences with fluids of all sorts, it's apropos that it's playing Durty Nellie's.
Facts: Gwar plays Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., Palatine, Monday, May 11, with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the music at 8. Priestess and Cattle Decapitation open. Tickets are $20, available at durtynellies.com or through TicketWeb at (866) 468-3401 or ticketweb.com. Call (847) 358-9150 for details.
Who's still the Boss?
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, who also have a claim on that title of "world's greatest rock group," make a Chicago stop next week on their latest tour, behind Bruce's new album, "Working on a Dream." The tunes are a little more forced than on his last album, "Magic," but the Boss is sure to draw on his full catalog for an extended set that won't disappoint.
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the United Center, 1901 W. Madison St., Chicago. Tickets are $95 and $65, but sold out. See unitedcenter.com for details.
