To save a life, we have to take a life?
Judy Thompson in her comments appearing under subject title in the May 1, issue of Fence Post instructs Cardinal George to become more educated on the subject of stem cells.
Alas, it is Ms Thompson that needs more education. Neither Cardinal George nor President Bush is against stem cell research - only embryonic stem cell research. The unwanted "garbage" that Ms. Thompson mentions, are aborted babies, from which embryonic cells are harvested. So in order to save a life, we first kill a life? What a barbaric concept! Especially since there are other options, better options.
President Bush funded this much more promising and ethical option - adult stem cell research which finds cures without resorting to killing babies. These adult cells can be harvested from skin, muscle, dental pulp, umbilical cords and placentas, even from the fat obtained from liposuctions, and the best part - there is no harm done to the donor.
How dare we be horrified then when so many children and young people get killed every single day? We started this death culture with the killing of millions of defenseless babies in abortions, and then slipped into the next phase - the killing of children and young people in schools, the streets even their own homes.
The final phase has already been set in motion - euthanasia, getting rid of the sick, the old, the unproductive. We cheapened life to the point where its destruction is not only widely accepted but even recommended.
No matter the label, no matter at which stage of life it happens, murder is murder. Killing innocent lives is a matter of both church and state - both are obligated to protect them.
