Man critically injured in shooting at Spring Hill Mall

Police were looking for two men Thursday night involved in the shooting of a 19-year old man in a parking lot at Spring Hill Mall in Carpentersville.

The 19-year old was in critical condition in intensive care at Sherman Hospital in Elgin with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Two men who police said were involved in the shooting reportedly ran away, according to Carpentersville police.

No motive for the incident was given. No arrests had been made as of 9 p.m. and police were asking anyone with information to call (847) 551-3481.

Firefighters were called to the mall at routes 31 and 72 about 6:30 p.m. on a report of a man shot in the parking lot. An ambulance crew was redirected to the Kohl's store on the northeast corner of the mall and found the man with a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to Capt. Larry Campbell, of the Carpentersville and Countryside Fire Protection District.

No one else was injured. A store manger for Kohl's declined to comment.

Further details were not immediately available. A portion of the mall is in West Dundee. Police from that agency also responded.

"At this point we don't have enough information to identify it as gang(-related) or not gang(-related)," said Carpentersville police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne.
