Geneva to begin brush pickup program

The city of Geneva's annual brush pickup service is scheduled to begin in April and end in November. This program will provide two citywide pickups each month beginning in April and ending at the end of November. The entire east side of the community will be collected the first and third weeks of each month and the west side will be collected on the second and fourth week of each month.

Brush/limbs must be placed on the parkway no later than 7 a.m. on the Monday of your scheduled collection week. Crews will not return until the next scheduled collection week.

In order to maintain the schedule, brush crews will not return for special pickups. Once the street has been completed, brush will not be collected until the following scheduled collection week.

This program is intended for the disposal of only limbs/branches that are removed by the property owner for normal maintenance and upkeep, not for lot clearing. The contractor will not collect material produced by a contractor.

These guidelines must be followed and will enable crews to perform this program safely and maintain schedule integrity. If brush piles do not meet these guidelines, the brush/limbs will not be collected.

• All limbs must be stacked with the cut ends in one direction and facing the curb if possible.

• Stumps cannot exceed 12 inches in diameter.

• Limbs/branches cannot exceed 12 inches in diameter and 12 feet in length.

• No foreign materials: construction debris, fence posts, lumber, fencing, wire, and grass/garden materials. Do not places these items in the brush/branches/limbs that are out for collection.

• Limbs/branches must be placed near the curb/edge of pavement not in the street.

• Grass clippings, annual/perennial flowers, garden waste, small limbs and twigs will not be collected. Cut and deposit these items in a yard wastepaper bag with the appropriate refuse sticker and the contract refuse hauler will collect with your trash.

• Do not tie bundles of limbs/branches with rope or wire.

• Stumps and root balls will be collected in the program.

Brush piles that don't comply with these requirements will not be picked up.

Severe storms could delay the timeliness of the pickup due an extremely large volume of material to be collected. Every attempt will be made to deploy additional staff and equipment if such delays do develop.

Collection schedule: Brush must be placed out for pickup by 7 a.m. on Monday of each scheduled week.
