Community Unit District 300 news

Parent orientation: The administration and counselors of Dundee-Crown High School remind all parents of incoming freshmen (2008-09) to attend the parent orientation night from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the high school, 1 Charger Country in Carpentersville.

The school sent home letters in February to parents of incoming freshmen welcoming their families to Dundee-Crown and encouraging them to attend the parent night.

School staff noted the extensive academic, athletic and extra-curricular opportunities at Dundee-Crown.

"The transition from middle school to high school may be a little overwhelming; There is help," the letter stated. "Parents of current Dundee-Crown students are available to answer your questions. We can share our experiences and knowledge. We may not know the answer to all your questions, but we can help you locate appropriate resources."

The orientation will also include information about becoming part of the counseling department's Parent Advisory Group. For more information, call Janet Johnson, Dundee-Crown High School counseling department, at (847) 426-1422 or Principal Lynn McCarthy at (847) 426-1415.

Community gatherings: Join the District 300 school board for its town hall-style community gathering from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 17 at Neubert Elementary School in Algonquin. Have coffee and pastries and casually visit with your elected school board representatives, and share questions and concerns.

Online survey: District 300 has issued a quick, easy online survey in which community members can give feedback on the District 300 Web site, newsletter and annual report.

The survey will be open through the months of April and May. The district is hoping that all community members -- those with and without children in the schools -- will take five minutes to complete the survey.

To do so, go to the D300 Web site, www.d300.org, and click on the survey link prominently displayed in the top-center of the home page.

A similar version of the survey was also just launched for district staff members.

Community and staff survey results will assist the district messaging architect in his redesign of the Web site, which is set to launch this summer. The district would like the Web site to better fit the needs and wants of its users, and to expand the number of people who regularly use the site.

Likewise, the survey results will help the district to continually improve its print informational resources.
