Hoffman chamber tees up:

The Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce and industry golf outing tees off today, Tuesday, at the Poplar Creek Country Club, 1400 Poplar Creek Drive, in Hoffman Estates. Touhy Ave. resurfacing begins:

Motorists should expect long delays during resurfacing of Touhy Avenue, from Mannheim Road to the Des Plaines River, starting today (May 12) through July 3. Touhy Avenue will have single lane closures for resurfacing. The project is part of the American Reinvestment Recovery Act. Motorists are advised to follow signage and drive cautiously and to use alternate routes.

Maxwell Street this weekend:

Hanover Park's semiannual community garage sale and flea market, Maxwell Street, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16. It will take place in the Metra commuter lot at Lake Street and Barrington Road. Free. (630) 372-4210.

Swine flu confirmed at MEHS:

A Maine East High School student has been confirmed to have the H1N1, aka swine flu, virus, the Cook County Department of Public Health said Monday. The school will remain open, as most U.S. cases are comparable in severity to seasonal influenza. Maine Township High School District 207 administrators used the district's phone message system and Web sites to inform parents, students and staff of the confirmed swine flu case. Officials are tracking attendance patterns at all three district high schools daily to monitor any potential new cases. Parents should check the district's Web site for updates, maine207.org. As of May 10, suburban Cook County had 130 confirmed cases of swine flu, including all probable cases reported through last week, Cook County health department spokesman Sean McDermott said. He added, there are 466 confirmed cases of swine flu statewide.

Conant artwork on display:

The Great Frame Up store, 1696 Wise Road in Schaumburg is joining other stores nationwide in hosting some of the best student artwork today, Tuesday, May 12. The Schaumburg store is showcasing the work of artists at Conant High School, as one leg of the national Creative Self Expressions Show. Participating The Great Frame Up stores across the country will submit one local winner from each participating high school to the national contest. All art submitted to the national competition will be judged by actress Jane Seymour, and a panel of judges; the winner will get a $2,000 scholarship. To see the Conant pieces on display, visit The Great Frame-Up in Schaumburg between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
