District 95 has big job ahead
This is in response to the pitiful construction and ensuing repairs at Lake Zurich Unit District 95 North Campus of Spencer Loomis Elementary and Middle School North. The project was started late by the previous superintendent, rushed along and completely botched at the end. Yet they were so incredibly proud of their "green egg" architectural detail.
Nice, but HEY, how about the minor details of adequate foundations and walls sufficiently attached to footings and roofs you forgot about?! I protested roadside 5 years ago, along with other parents, that this facility was unacceptable and unsafe for our children to attend.
The facility opening should have been delayed at least an entire semester, to due diligence to the millions of taxpayers' dollars being spent. The school was held together with bubble gum and zip ties, quite literally, when parents were finally allowed to tour weeks after the children were in classrooms. There was no phone service, no heat until December, no food in the cafeteria, no railings on stairs, limited fire protection.
It was amazing no child was injured or worse in those first few months. Settling since has caused gaps of INCHES in the walls, floors, and likely ceilings to emerge. Shame, shame on the previous school administration for allowing such an inexperienced district project management on such a huge project. Shame also on them for pushing the premature school opening, causing many of the now found shortcuts that were taken to achieve their unrealistic schedule.
Good luck to the current administration to resolve the hundreds of issues brought on by blatant lack of qualified oversight in the past.
