One dead, three injured in high-speed Arlington Heights crash

A passenger was killed and three others seriously injured in a high-speed accident in Arlington Heights, police said.

Arlington Heights Police Cmdr. Andrew Whowell said the male driver of the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am lost control of his vehicle while speeding eastbound on Palatine Road - east of Rand Road - and hit a tree just after midnight Thursday morning.

He said a passenger was killed in the accident while three others in the vehicle were seriously injured.

He added all people in the car were in their mid-20s, but would not release the ages of those involved.

Two of the occupants of the vehicle were transported from the scene to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights while the third occupant was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Whowell said police are still investigating the incident and names of those in the vehicle are not being released until after the investigation is completed.

He added it is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
