Police: Peoria officer shot armed man
PEORIA -- A man is in critical condition after being shot by a Peoria police officer who authorities say was acting in self-defense.
Peoria police say the unnamed man is recovering from surgery at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center after the shooting early Monday.
Police say officers were called to a home after a report of a man pulling a gun on a woman. When officers arrived, the man with the gun allegedly fled from the front of the home to the back.
Once there, he pulled a handgun on a pursuing officer, who police say fired once, hitting the man in the torso.
The officer was not injured in the incident.
Police say they've recovered a loaded gun that belonged to the suspect.
