Sickened by death of swan

A swan has been living on Cornerstone Lake in West Chicago for the entire summer. Recently a Chicago Bird Collision Monitors team captured the swan because it seemed to be in distress. When examined, it proved to have been shot through the body. Some hours after being captured, it died.

I would hope that the person who shot this beautiful bird, when it was only a hundred yards from Norton Creek Elementary School, sees or hears about this letter. If you got whatever you hoped to get from this act - perhaps it makes you feel powerful that you caused a defenseless swan to die a long and painful death - at least think about the children at the school and the adjacent park the next time you take your gun out to shoot something.
