Mulder: I will work tirelessly for village
Dear residents of Arlington Heights: On April 7th you re-elected me to serve as your Mayor (Village President) for four more years.
I am deeply honored and most grateful for the confidence you have placed in me, and I assure you that I will continue to work tirelessly to keep Arlington Heights a "Best City to Live" as named in a recent Daily Herald survey.
We are operating in a very challenging economic environment which will require some difficult choices. Your Village Board has developed a budget for the next fiscal year which cuts spending to over 7 percent and utilizes a small portion of the village reserves.
We will make every effort to hold down spending while maintaining the services you expect and deserve as residents of our village. Hopefully we will pull through this difficult recession and see brighter days ahead.
I want to thank everyone who voted in the April 7 Election - including those who voted for my opponent. I would also be remiss if I did not personally thank the many dedicated volunteers who worked on various aspects of my campaign -- you truly made a difference.
In the future, I hope we can find a way to get more of us out to the polls. Too many residents fail to vote in municipal elections, and regardless of which candidates you support, voting is a right, it is a privilege, and a responsibility that everyone should find important.
Thank you for your support.
Arlene J. Mulder
Mayor, Arlington Heights
