Raiders come back to defeat Lemont

Glenbard South hit the canvas early against Lemont but came back with a combination much more potent than the Indians.

The Raiders (4-2) fell behind 12-2 midway through the first quarter but started cracking away at the lead shortly after.

Before the first quarter was up, Glenbard South managed to tie the nonconference boys basketball game at 12-12 as junior Dennis Bolton hit a 35-footer at the buzzer in Glen Ellyn.

Follow that 3-pointer up with 3s by Ralondo Shumate and Will Hill and the Raiders eventually grabbed a 20-12 lead, using the 18-0 run to run away to a 59-41 win Tuesday night at home.

"We are so poised as a team," Bolton said. "We are confident and we know what we can do. We concentrated on defense and we were able to come back on them. We are poised and we think we can come back on any deficit."

One play in particular really hurt the Indians and Lemont coach Rob Wostratzky said that plays like the one Bolton made can really change the course of the game.

"That shot at the end of the quarter definitely gave them momentum," Wostratzky said. "Put that together with some nice adjustments and they were able to string together a lot of points in a row. They played well and made some nice adjustments."

One area that the Raiders dominated was points off the bench. For the game Glenbard South received 26 points from the bench while Lemont (2-4) got 4 points.

"I think this is one of the reasons why coach (Wade Hardtke) kept 17 players on the team," Bolton said. "We are such a deep team and we all contribute in our own ways."

Bolton managed to make a large contribution as he finished with 9 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench.

"This was by far the best game he has played for us this season," Hardtke said. "Hopefully, this will be his coming out party because we all know what he can do. He is just now getting settled in after transferring here. Other than him, our bench just did a fantastic job for us tonight."

Another aspect of the game that Glenbard South excelled at was on the defensive end of the floor. For the game the Raiders forced Lemont into 29 turnovers leading to 24 points.

Lemont's Juozas Pranckevicicus led all scorers with 12 points and grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds in the loss.

Andy Manson scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Wally Wiedner and Shumate both chipped in with 8 points apiece.
