Neighbors in the News
• Des Plaines resident Kathryn Hope was awarded a $2,000, nonrenewable, state scholarship by the Royal Neighbors Foundation. Royal Neighbors, a nonprofit fraternal organization, offers insurance products to members, who also receive member benefits and can participate in volunteer activities through the organization's local chapters.
• Hailey Hartman, a 2007 Fremd High School graduate, recently completed an 11-week summer internship with Procter and Gamble in Charlotte, N.C. She was one of 40 interns selected from over 1,000 applicants for sales management internships throughout the United States. She was selected for and has accepted another internship opportunity with Procter and Gamble next summer. Hailey attends Indiana University and is enrolled in the Kelley School of Business as well as the Hutton Honors program. She will be a junior this fall.
• The Avon Foundation for Women awarded Erica Borst of Arlington Heights and Katherine Dziedizic of Hoffman Estates its 2009 President's Club scholarship.
Borst is the granddaughter of Avon representative Marianne Pick. She plans to attend Saint Louis University and major in biology/physical therapy.
Dziedizic, the granddaughter of Avon representative Violet Schneider, plans to major in marine science at the University of Miami.
• Maria Conception was named principal of Nature Ridge Elementary School in Bartlett. Before joining District U-46, Conception was the assistant principal at Jahn World Language School, Chicago Public Schools, where her responsibilities included the coordination of quality standardized curriculum and professional and partnership development. She also served other Chicago Public schools including Jordan School as assistant principal and Stowe School as Middle School coordinator.
Conception holds a bachelor of arts degree from Sacred Heart University; a master's degree in public administration from Roosevelt University; and a master's degree in education leadership and instruction from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
• Patryk Szady of Arlington Heights completed a three-day workshop at The Art Institute of New York City, where high school students explored their interest in design, media arts and fashion.
Led by industry professionals, the intense accelerated workshops included hands-on projects that resulted in a finished product. During the evenings Szady enjoyed the many attractions New York City had to offer.
The all-day workshops and evening activities culminated in a wrap party and awards ceremony. The ceremony took place in the Tribeca Gallery, part of Tribeca Cinemas, well-known as the focal point of the Tribeca Film Festival.
