Chicago woman leaps into lake after dog
A woman and her dog are recovering after she leaped into Lake Michigan's frigid waters to save it.
Chicago police marine officers had to rescue 34-year-old Jess Craigie Tuesday morning after her dog, Moxie, chased a sea gull off the end of a pier and into the lake. A man passing by tried to stop Craigie before she jumped in to the 40-degree water fully clothed.
She clung to a metal pipe sticking out of the water while the 2-year-old mixed-breed swam toward her. Craigie treaded water with Moxie standing on her shoulders for 20 minutes before emergency workers lifted them out.
Craigie was taken to a hospital and treated for hypothermia. She says she's never been colder in her life.
