McHenry Co. man gets jail time, probation for barricading home

A 49-year-old McHenry County man was sentenced to 36 days in jail and two years probation this week after pleading guilty to a claims he unlawfully barricaded his home to keep police from discovering a cache or weapons and drugs inside.

Under a plea bargain entered Thursday, Steve Seymour, of Wonder Lake, must also pay $950 restitution to law enforcement agencies that raided the home in September 2007 and carried off more than 25 guns, a Claymore mine, hand grenades, ammunition and cocaine.

In return for Seymour's guilty plea on a charge of criminal fortification of a residence, county prosecutors dismissed 10 other charges, including one for drug possession and seven weapons offenses.

County sheriff's police led the raid after a yearlong investigation into drug trafficking. Also participating were members of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Kane County Bomb Squad.
