Limbaugh preys on reactionary right

Laszlo Stephan's recent letter states "To say that Rush Limbaugh wants Obama to fail... is simply not true."

I think that the letter itself is proof of the opposite. To further his career, Limbaugh (not nearly as well-supported as the letter states) preys on the uninformed, reactionary right and fills their willing minds with lies and exaggerations intended to increase the divide in our nation.

Mr. Stephan's letter is proof of that. If Limbaugh's spewing were the truth instead of lies then it would be fair game.

It is not.

For example, the letter states that President Obama nationalized the auto industry. Did he do that by providing loans? Perhaps Mr. Stephan is too young, or too old, to remember the Chrysler Corp. Loan Guarantee Act of 1979. They paid the loan back in 1983, with interest, and continued to provide good jobs and security for workers for the next 30 years.

An important industry is facing tough times in a worldwide recession. Supporting them seems more logical than dangerous. The letter goes on to state "the banks have been warned that they are next, the health care industry is already in the cross hairs."

Conservative President Bush and his treasury secretary pushed through the TARP bank bailout - which was promptly abused by the bankers who fulfilled little of the original intent of the action. Banks cannot be socialized as long as we are hearing news of their stock prices and profits and losses. The same is true for GM and Chrysler.

Markets only drive capitalist economies. This brings us back to the danger of someone like Rush Limbaugh. His cries of socialism and Marxism, as echoed by the writer, are incompatible with what we know is a market economy.

Why should these lies go unchallenged?
