James Madison women win third straight CAA championship

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - Jazmon Gwathmey scored 19 in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game on Saturday and James Madison beat Drexel 60-46 to advance to its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

The top-seeded Dukes (27-5) held No. 2 seed Drexel to 17 first-half points - four in the first quarter - and maintained its lead in the second half to extend their winning streak to 20.

Da'Lishia Griffin had 11 points and 16 rebounds and Angela Mickens added 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Jackie Schluth had eight points to lead Drexel (19-13), which missed its first nine attempts from the field while JMU opened with a 10-0 lead.

After Jessica Pellechio's basket cut the Dragons' deficit to 15-8, the Dukes scored five straight and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Ashley Perez added 10 points for James Madison. Mickens and Perez earned All-Tournament honors and Gwathmey was named the most outstanding player for the third straight year.
