Some Lake County road projects to watch
Drivers might want to start considering alternate routes if they use the Tri-State Tollway in Lincolnshire or use Route 137 in the Libertyville area.
Illinois Department of Transportation officials announced the tollway's southbound entrance ramp and the northbound exit will be closed at Route 22 for construction work starting in mid-June.
Officials said the construction work forcing the closure of the two ramps is expected to last three weeks, weather permitting. During those weeks, Route 22 will be raised to meet bridge clearance requirements over the tollway.
Also in Lincolnshire, street construction has started on north-south Schelter Road west of Milwaukee Avenue. Lincolnshire's engineering inspector said Schelter is now a one-way road going north.
In Libertyville Township, IDOT work on the Des Plaines River bridge will force the reduction of Route 137 to one lane in each direction near the Independence Grove Forest Preserve entrance starting Monday, May 18. The work is slated to run until mid-August.
Lake County Forest Preserve District officials said visitors should allow extra time to reach Independence Grove. The Des Plaines River Trail will be open during the road construction, with a slight detour in place at the Route 137.
