Steel Beam to bring local writer's musical to life

Steel Beam Theatre, 111 W. Main St., St. Charles, presents the premiere of "Wild Goat," a musical written by Chicago area writer Jack Helbig, and music and lyrics by Tony Award-winning composer of "Urinetown," Mark Hollmann.

"Wild Goat" is based on a Greek myth of Menander and involves a grouchy farmer, his beautiful daughter, an overbearing widow and her handsome young son. It's a humorous tale of love and misadventure as these strong-willed parents try to interfere in the young lovers' path to happiness.

Opening on Friday, May 15, Steel Beam Theatre is partnering with Pete Pashos, owner of Odyssey, Authentic Greek Taverna, 3755 E. Main St., St. Charles, who will host the premiere's party after the show.

Helbig and Hollmann will be in attendance to meet and mingle with the audience and cast.

Donna Steele, founder of Steel Beam Theatre, directs the cast featuring Nancy Kolton of Batavia as the Widow; Tony Calzaretta of Schaumburg as the Grouch; Amy Steele of Chicago as the young daughter Myrrhinne; Michael Buonincontro of Roselle as the young lad Xander; Terry Christianson of St. Charles and Michael Henry of Chicago as the two comic narrator/slaves; and Stephanie Hermann of Roselle as Daria, the sister, Aphrodite the Goddess, and the showstopping role of the wild goat. Jeremy Ramey of Chicago is music director, Cynthia Hall of Aurora is the choreographer and Sam Dempsey of Naperville is the set designer.

The production will run through June 28. Purchase tickets SteelBeamTheatre.com or by calling (630) 587-8521.

Tickets are $25, $23 for seniors and students or $22 each for groups of 10 or more.
