Parker's WNBA jersey remains league's top-seller
NEW YORK - Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker, the 2008 WNBA Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year, tops this year's list of WNBA most popular jerseys.
Parker's No.3 jersey has sold more than any other rookie in WNBA history last season, and now sales of her jersey have increased more than 100 percent over last year.
The figures are based on sales at the NBA Store in New York City and WNBAStore.com from October 2008 through April 2009. The WNBA season begins June 6, but Parker, the former Naperville Central star who gave birth to a baby girl on May 13, is expected to play later this summer.
According to league officials, sales of jerseys on WNBAStore.com have more than doubled versus last year, and WNBA merchandise is up 25 percent versus last year based on combined sales from the NBA Store and WNBAStore.com.
