Yanni at Sears Centre this weekend
Smooth at Sears
If you're distraught over the demise of smooth-jazz WNUA 95.5-FM, head on out to the Sears Centre this weekend for a soothing balm of music in the form of the Yanni Voices tour, headlined by the smooth-as-yogurt keyboardist himself.
Yanni plays with Nathan Pacheco, Chloe, Ender Thomas and Leslie Mills at 8 p.m. today, May 29, at the Sears Centre, 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway, Hoffman Estates. Tickets range from $25 to $95, available by calling Ticketmaster at (312) 559-1212 or visiting ticketmaster.com or searscentre.com.
Choir practice
For a low-budget treat, try the North Central College Concert Choir, playing an end-of-the-term show at its home base.
The North Central College Choir performs at 8 p.m. today, May 29, at the college's Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. Tickets are $3 and $5; call (630) 637-7469 for details.
Wussy or not
Even cheaper, the excellent Cincinnati folk-rock band Wussy, which rocks harder than it folks, plays a pair of sets Saturday at the Charleston downtown. And don't forget the blind Malian couple Amadou & Mariam, in town behind Amadou's searing lead guitar Tuesday night.
Wussy plays the Charleston, 2076 N. Hoyne, at 9 p.m. and midnight Saturday, May 30. Both sets are free, but 21 and older at the tavern. Call (773) 489-4757 for details. Amadou & Mariam play at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Park West, 522 W. Armitage, Chicago. Tickets to the 18-and-older show are $25, available by calling Ticketmaster at (312) 559-1212 or visiting ticketmaster.com. Call (312) 929-5959 for details.
