Aurora man sentenced to 80 years for gang murder
An Aurora man was sentenced to 80 years in prison Friday - two years to the day after he was arrested in connection with a gang murder.
Darvin T. Henderson, 28, was convicted in November of first-degree murder in the April 29, 2007 shooting death of Rashod M. Waldrop, 21, and attempted murder for injuring an 18-year-old man who was with Waldrop.
Prosecutors said Waldrop was shot in the back three times shortly after midnight as he and several other people descended an apartment building staircase on the 400 block of North River Street, Aurora, where a party had been taking place upstairs. Another main was hit in the hail of bullets but survived.
Authorities said Henderson gained access to the building with the help of his co-defendant, Tuan C. Fields, 30, of Aurora, who was subsequently convicted of charges he supplied the murder weapon and sentenced to 33 years in prison.
Kane County Judge Grant S. Wegner sentenced Henderson to 48 years for the murder conviction and 32 years for the attempted murder conviction. The sentences will be served consecutively, and Henderson must serve at least 48 years.
